24 Hour Urine

COLLECTING A 24 HOUR URINE FOR CALCIUM OR CATECHOLAMINES

WARNING:
The container contains acid as a preservative (as stated on the label) please handle with care.

DO NOT DISCARD THIS PRESERVATIVE. DO NOT DRINK.

Store the container upright in a cool place away from children and pets.
If splashed on the skin-- wash well with water.
For splashes in the eyes--flush well with water and seek medical advice.
If swallowed--drink plenty of water or milk and seek medical advice.

Instructions

  1. On the first day empty your bladder into the WC, NOT INTO THE CONTAINER.
    • Note and record the time and date on the container as the start of the 24 hour period
  2. Save ALL urine passed over the next 24 hours in the container provided.
  3. 24 hours after the first discarded sample empty your bladder again and add this to the container.
    • Note and record the time and date on the container as the end of the 24 hour period.
  4. Please check that your full name, hospital number (if known) and the times and dates of the urine collection are written clearly on the container.
  5. Please bring the container together with the request form to Pathology reception at the Royal Berkshire Hospital (0830-1615hrs), Battle Hospital (0900-1630hrs) or Newbury District Hospital (0830-1700hrs), whichever is more convenient, Monday to Friday.
    Please bring the urine to the laboratory on the day the collection is finished with the request form and give these to a member of the office staff personally.
